Meditation: A Path to Eternal Life

1. onward : “앞으로” on(앞으로)과 -ward(방향을 나타내는 접미사)에서

from this day onward 오늘 이후로

move onward 전진하다

After death, people live onward as spirits.

죽음 후에 사람들은 신명으로 살아간다.

Even if your legs hurt, strive ever onward.

다리가 아프더라도 자꾸 걸어 봐야 한다.

2. very : [강조어로서 the, this, that이나 소유 대명사 등과 함께] 바로 그, 정말로 그, 전적으로 동일한

Your very existence disappears like a smoke into thin air forever.

‘나’라는 존재는 영원히 연기처럼 사라집니다.

That’s the very item I was looking for.

그게 바로 내가 찾던 것이었다.

You must do it this very minute.

당장 하지 않으면 안 돼.

3. suggest (that) + 주어 + (should) 동사원형 : ~가 ~할 것을 제안하다

I suggest that you (should) meditate with the Taeeulju Mantra.

저는 당신이 태을주 수행을 할 것을 권유합니다.

I suggested that he (should) take a day off.

나는 그가 하루 쉬는 것이 좋겠다고 제안했다.

I suggest (that) we (should) go out to eat.

전 나가서 외식할 것을 제안해요.

4. to + 동사원형 : [to부정사의 부사적 용법] ~하기 위하여

You meditate to harmonize your life with the everlasting universe.

당신의 생명이 영원히 존재하는 우주와 조화되기 위해 수행을 합니다.

You meditate to be reborn as the human of the cosmic autumn.

당신은 가을인간으로 태어나기 위해서 수행을 합니다.

I meditate to relieve stress and anxiety and find inner peace.

나는 스트레스와 불안을 해소하고 내면의 평화를 찾기 위해 수행을 합니다.

Dialogue 1

A: What are the two kinds of death you’ve mentioned earlier?

B: It’s the death of the physical body and death of the spiritual body.

A: Spiritual bodies die, too?

B: Of course! After death, people live onward as spirits. But if you do not cultivate yourself with dao, you soul will eventually die and your very existence disappears like a smoke into thin air forever.

A: 아까 말씀하신 두 가지 죽음이란 무엇인가요?

B: 육체의 죽음과 영혼의 죽음입니다.

A: 영혼도 죽나요?

B: 물론이죠! 사후에 인간은 신명으로 살아갑니다. 하지만 도를 닦지 않는다면 영혼은 결과적으로 죽음을 맞이할 것이며 ‘나’라는 존재는 영원히 연기처럼 사라집니다.

B: 도생님께 해답을 드리기보다는 태을주 주문 수행을 먼저 권하고 싶은데요.

A: 수행이요? 왜 수행을 해야 하는 건가요?

B: 우리 생명이 영원히 존재하는 우주와 조화되고 가을인간으로 태어나기 위해서는 수행을 해야 하는 겁니다. 오직 수행을 함으로써 내 생명이 영원히 지속될 수 있습니다.
