A: 도통에도 종류가 있나요?
A: Are there different types of enlightenment?
B: 네 물론이죠. 고대로부터 하늘의 이치에 대한 도통이 있었고 지리에 대한 도통은 있었지만 가장 높은 형태에 도통인 중통인의는 없었습니다.
B: Yes, of course. Since ancient times, there was enlighten- ment into the principles of the heaven and enlighten- ment into the principles of earth, but there has never been enlightenment into humanity’s right path which is the highest form of enlightenment.
A: 그렇다면 인류 역사상 가장 높은 도통을 한 사람이 아무도 없다는 겁니까?
A: You’re saying nobody achieved the highest enlighten-ment in the entire human history?
B: 오직 한 분 계셨습니다. 1901년 7월 7일, 증산상제님께서는 대원사 칠성각에서 궁극의 도통을 이루시고 천지대신문을 열어주셨습니다.
B: Only one person did. On July 7th, 1901, Jeung-san Sangjenim attained the ultimate enlightenment in the Seven Stars Shrine at Daewonsa Temple and opened heaven and earth’s great gate of the spirit realm.
