God the Father and God the Mother

1. 숫자 + years after : ~한지 ~년이 지난 후

(☞ after가 전치사로 쓰이면 뒤에 명사형이 나오고, 접속사로 쓰이면 주어+동사로 구성된 절이 나옵니다.)

Two years after Sangjenim’s ascension, Taemonim attained ultimate enlightenment.

상제님 어천 2년 후 태모님께서 대도통을 하셨다.

6.25 전쟁(이 끝난 지) 64년 후, 한반도는 여전히 분단되어 있고 긴장이 감돈다.

2. walk the path of/to : ~의(~로 가는) 길을 걷다

(☞ “걷다”라는 뜻의 walk는 자동사로도 쓰지만 타동사로도 쓰여 목적어를 가질 수 있다는 것을 기억하세요.)

Subunim walked the path of self-sacrifice.

수부님께서는 자기희생의 길을 걸으셨다.

Those who slander the Dao of the West cannot then walk the path to the West.

서도西道를 훼방하는 자는 서로 갈 길이 없느니라.

When you walk the path of meditation, you can be reborn as an eternal being.

수행의 길을 걸을 때 영원한 생명으로 다시 태어날 수 있다.

3. must have + p.p. : ~했음에 틀림없다

(☞ 말하는 시점(보통 현재)에서 과거 사실에 대한 강한 추측을 나타낼 때 사용합니다.)

Choosing Taemonim as the successor must have been a very unconventional event.

태모님을 후계자로 정한 것은 이례적인 일이었음에 틀림없다.

The ground is wet. It must have rained last night.

땅이 젖어 있다. 어젯밤에 틀림없이 비가 왔을 것이다.

He’s still not here. He must have missed his train.

그는 아직도 여기 있어. 그는 틀림없이 기차를 놓쳤을 거야.

4. If there is ~ , there is/must be ~ : 만약 ~이 있다면 ~이 있다/있어야 한다

(☞ if는 조건절을 이끄는 접속사로, 대개 변하지 않는 사실, 과학적인 팩트를 말할 때 조건절과 주절의 시제를 모두 현재로 씁니다. 또 there는 원래 ‘그곳에’라는 뜻이지만 There is/are 는 ‘~이 있다’는 표현으로 쓰입니다.)

If there is heaven, there must be earth.

하늘이 있다면 땅이 있어야 한다.

If there’s a father, there is a mother.

아버지가 있다면 어머니도 있다.

If there is beauty, there must be ugliness.

아름다움이 있다면 추함이 있어야 한다.

Dialogue 1

A: How did Jeung-san Sangjenim’s dao spread after Sangjenim’s ascension?

B: It started through the devotion of the Great Mother Taemo Go Subunim. Two years after Sangjenim’s ascension, in 1911, Taemonim attained ultimate enlightenment, inspired by Sangjenim’s Holy Spirit. She gathered the disciples of Sangjenim who were in despair and declared the founding a new spiritual movement.

A: What other tasks did Taemonim perform as the successor of Sangjenim’s work?

B: For many years before Her returning to heaven in 1935, Taemonim conducted Her Work of Renewing Heaven and Earth. She walked the path of selfless devotion as the mother of all of humanity and the rest of the universe.

A: 증산 상제님께서 어천하신 후 상제님의 도를 세상에 펴는 움직임은 어떻게 시작되었습니까?

B: 태모 고수부님의 헌신에 의해서 시작되었습니다. 태모님께서 상제님의 성령 감화로 1911년 대도통을 하신 후 상제님 어천 이후 방황하던 성도들을 모아 정읍 대흥리에서 교단 창립을 선포하십니다.

A: 상제님 도의 계승자로서 태모님은 또 어떤 일을 하셨습니까?

B: 태모님께서는 1935년 선화하실 때까지 천지공사를 행하시고 만백성의 어머니로서 온갖 희생과 봉사의 길을 걸으셨습니다.

Dialogue 2

A: Who received the direct dao lineage and authority of Jeung-san Sangjenim?

B: Taemo Go Subunim. Jeung-san Sangjenim himself chose Subunim as His successor in the year 1907.

A: There were many male disciples of Sangjenim. Looking at the historical and cultural background at the time, choosing Taemonim as His successor must have been a very unconventional event.

B: It was rather a revolutionary event during Her time, but all of Sangjenim’s work has been done according to the cosmic principle. If there is heaven, there must be earth. If there’s a father, there has to be a mother. By Sangjaenim and Subunim coming together into the human history, all of humanity can now honor Father God and Mother God at the same time.

A: 상제님께서는 누구에게 종통을 전해 주셨습니까?

B: 상제님은 1907년 수부님께 종통을 전해 주셨습니다.

A: 상제님을 수종 든 남성 성도들이 여럿 있었는데 상제님께서 여성에게 종통을 전수하신 것은 당시 시대 상황 등에서 볼 때 참으로 파격적인 일이네요!

B: 네. 당시에는 매우 혁명적인 사건이었습니다. 하지만 상제님께서 하신 일은 모두 우주의 이법에 따른 것입니다. 하늘이 있으면 땅이 있고, 아버지가 있으면 어머니가 있어야 합니다. 상제님과 수부님이 인간 역사에 오심으로써 이제 온 인류가 아버지 하나님과 어머니 하나님을 함께 모시게 되었습니다.
