Meditation and Water-Ascent-Fire-Descent

1. (just) as + 주어 + 동사 : 마치 ~가 ~하는 것과 (똑)같이

Just as water flows downward, water qi tends to stay in the lower part of our body.

물이 아래로 흐르듯이 수기는 몸의 아래쪽에 머물려는 경향이 있다.

Just as fire rises, fire qi tends to rise to the upper part of the body.

불이 위로 솟아오르듯 화기는 몸의 위쪽으로 올라가려는 경향이 있다.

Just as you cannot see without pupils, you cannot move your body without spirits.

눈에 동자가 있어야 보이듯이 신명 없이는 몸을 움직일 수가 없다.

It’s also known as water-ascent-fire-descent.

그것은 또한 수승화강이라고 알려져 있다.

The Work of Renewing Heaven and Earth is also known as the work of resolving the bitterness and grief of spirits.

천지공사는 또한 신명해원 공사로도 알려져 있다.

Universal life force is also known as prana or qi.

보편적 생명력은 또한 프라나 또는 기로 알려져 있다.

3. become + 과거분사/형용사 : ~하게 되다

그녀는 땅이 뒤집어지는 것처럼 느꼈다.

Dialogue 1

A: Human life is sustained through the interaction of fire qi and water qi.

B: Fire qi and water qi?

A: Yes. Just as water flows downward, water qi tends to stay in the lower part of our body. Just as fire rises, fire qi tends to rise to the upper part of the body. To a healthy state of mind and body, fire qi should descend and water qi should rise. It’s also known as water-ascent-fire-descent.

A: 인간의 몸은 물기운[水氣]과 불기운[火氣]이 서로 작용하면서 생명력을 유지해 갑니다.

B: 물기운과 불기운이요?

A: 네. 물은 아래로 흐르는 성질이 있기 때문에 몸의 아래에 자리 잡고 있고 불기운은 위로 발산되는 성질이 있기 때문에 위에 자리 잡고 있지요. 정신과 육체의 건강을 유지하려면 불기운은 아래로 내려야 하고 물기운은 위로 올라가야 합니다. 수승화강이죠.

B: As you get rid of the impure energy in your body, your skin becomes clear and your eyes shine brighter than glass. The mind becomes clear, as if the bright moon is shedding light inside your head.

A: 수행을 통해 어떻게 수승화강이 이루어지나요?

B: 앉아서 수도를 오래 하다 보면 불기운은 가라앉고 물기운은 올라옵니다. 그게 얼마 지나면 완전히 체질 개선이 됩니다.

A: 체질이 어떻게 개선이 되나요?

B: 탁기가 정리되면서 피부도 말쑥해지고 눈도 광채가 납니다. 마치 머릿속에 밝은 달이 뜬 것처럼 정신이 환해집니다.
