B: Well, Confucianism uses the term ‘Sangje’. Daoism refers to him as the “supreme being in the Jade City of heaven.” Buddhist teachings say the Lord of Tushita Heaven, the Maitreya Buddha, will save humanity. And Jesus Christ testified about the God the Father that have sent him, who is the Lord of Heaven.
A: So, in a way, they are different titles referring to the same entity?
B: Exactly!

A: 다른 문화권에서는 신을 지칭할 때 사용하는 단어가 다르다고 하던데요. 세상 사람들이 하느님을 부르는 다른 호칭으로 뭐가 있을까요?
B: 음, 유교에서는 상제라는 단어를 쓰고요, 도교에서는 하늘의 옥경에 계신 하느님을 얘기하죠. 불교에서는 도솔천 천주이신 미륵불께서 인류를 구원할 거라고 말합니다. 그리고 예수 그리스도는 그를 보내신 천주님이신 하나님 아버지의 존재를 증언했었죠.

A: That’s right. The title ‘Samsin Sangjenim’ has been used in Spirit Teaching, which predates Confucianism and Daoism. Sangjenim eventually came to be called Jeung-san Sangjenim when He incarnated into this world.

A: 역사 속에서 통치자 하나님을 상제님이라고 불러왔지만 상제님을 지칭할 때 사용된 다른 단어들도 물론 있습니다.
