B: Well. Jin-pyo was a famed Buddhist master during the Silla Dynasty.

A: Yeah. I remember you telling me that he was connected to Sangjenim’s arrival.
B: This is true. After receiving enlightenment through 3 years of prayer, he had a direct encounter with the Maitreya Buddha. Jin-pyo fervently prayed that this Lord Maitreya Buddha would incarnate into Korea during the coming times of calamities.

A: 미륵불을 친견한 스님에 대해 들었어.
B: 어떤 스님? 진표 대성사 말이니?

A: 맞아! 그분에 대해 좀 더 알려 줘.
B: 음, 진표는 신라시대의 유명한 불교 스승이야.

A: 그래. 그분이 상제님의 강세와 관련이 있다는 얘기를 네가 해 줬었지.
B: 맞아. 그분은 3년 기도를 통해 도통을 받고 미륵불을 직접 뵙게 됐어. 진표는 대재앙의 시대에 미륵천주님께서 한국에 강세해 주실 것을 열렬히 기도했어.

A: How does he connect with the incarnation of Sangjenim?
B: He tried to build a heaven on earth even after he passed away. Then when things weren’t going as planned, he was the one who lead the group of enlightened spirits, buddhas, and bodhisatvas to entreat Sangjenim to incarnate into this world.

A: 마테오 리치는 중국에 온 예수회 신부였던 거지, 응?
B: 그래. 그분은 문화, 학문, 영적 수행을 비롯한 모든 분야에서 동양과 서양의 차이를 줄인 선구자였어.

A: 그분은 상제님의 강세와 어떤 관련이 있어?
B: 그분은 돌아가신 후에도 지상에 천국을 건설하고자 노력했어. 그것이 계획한 대로 되지 않자 도통신, 부처, 보살들을 이끌고 상제님께 가서 이 세상에 강세해 달라고 간청했어.
