오늘날 우리가 사는 세상을 돌아보면, 선천 말대의 마지막 밤 열차를 탄 수많은 사람 들이 돈과 권력, 명예와 쾌락을 좇는 가운데 우울과 불안, 공허와 무기력에 빠져서 자신 도 모르는 죽음의 길로 질주하고 있습니다. 이러한 고통과 타락은 어디에서 비롯되는 것일까요? 인류를 분노하게 하고 한숨짓게 하는 모든 갈등과 비극은 무엇 때문에 일어 나는 것일까요?
When I look around the world today ? that is, the last train of the Early Heaven ? I see many people living for the pursuit of money, power, fame, and pleasure. These pursuits eventually lead to depression, anxiety, emptiness, and debilitation. People seem to be unconsciously rushing into the path of death. What is the reason behind all these pains and failures of humanity? What is the cause of all the conflicts and tragedies that lead people to anger and frustration?
문명의 위기를 진단해 온 동서양 지성들이 머지않아 현대 문명이 몰락하리라는 절망적인 소식을 전하는 가운데, 자본주의 경제 체 제의 붕괴 위기와 크고 작은 민족 갈등, 종교 분쟁 등으로 말미암아 지금 세계는 언제 어 디로 재앙의 불꽃이 튈지 모른다는 불안감 과 긴장감에 휩싸여 있습니다. 또한 현대 문명의 정점에서 전 세계로 확산되는 새로운 질병은 끊임없이 지구촌 인류의 생존을 위협하고 있습니다.
Having identified the crisis of current society, intellectuals in the East and West have already foretold the impending collapse of modern civilization. Indeed, with constant news coverage of the crisis of the capitalist economic system, as well as various ethnic conflicts and religious disputes, global society is imbued with anxiety that the flame of disaster might spark anytime and anywhere. Meanwhile, new diseases able to spread rapidly across the world continuously threaten the survival of humanity.
그뿐만 아니라 지구 온난 화와 오존층의 파괴, 급속히 녹아 내리는 극 지방의 빙하, 그리고 끊이지 않는 기상 이변과 자연 재해, 빈번하게 발생하는 초대형 지진 등, 모든 상황이 인류를 헤어날 길 없는 깊은 수렁으로 몰아넣고 있습니다.
Other pressing issues include global warming, the destruction of the ozone layer, the melting of the polar ice caps, as well as ongoing weather and natural disasters. These issues and crises seem to push us deeper into a swamp from which we cannot escape.
‘침몰해 가는 세계를 건져서 인간을 구원 하는 일은 과연 기성 종교에서 말하는 가르 침처럼 맹목적 신앙이나 마음 수양, 심신의 수련만으로 가능할 것인가? 종교인들이 외 치는 종말의 실상은 도대체 무엇이며 역사 의 심판이란 무엇을 말하는가? 종교마다 앞 다투어 외치는 마지막 구원의 의미는 무엇 이며 축복과 빛의 새 세상은 언제쯤 지상에 세워질 것인가?’
This prompts the following questions: “is it really possible to save humanity in this falling world through just blind faith, the cultivation of the mind, or the mind-body practice taught by the established religions? What is the reality of the apocalypse that the religious speak of and what is meant by the judgment by history? What is the meaning of the final salvation that each religion claims, and when will the new world of the bright and blessed be established on earth?”
지금 우리가 당면한 총체적인 난국은 이미 과학이나 종교, 철학 또는 여러 국제기구의 노력으로 해결할 수 있는 단계를 넘어섰습 니다. 현재 지구는 치유할 수 없는 불치병에 허덕이고 있습니다.
The crisis we face today has become too severe to be solved through science, religion, philosophy, or the various efforts of international organizations alone. Currently, the earth is suffering from multiple crises and diseases.
