두하늘 : 선천과 후천 Two Heavens: The Early Heaven and the Later Heaven

우주 1년은 크게 봄 여름과 가을 겨울의 변 화로 돌아갑니다. 앞의 두 계절, 곧 생장·분 열 운동을 하는 봄여름 시간대를 선천 先天 , 뒤의 두 계절, 곧 수렴·통일 운동을 하는 가 을 겨울 시간대를 후천 後天 이라 합니다. 

A cosmic year can be divided into the bipartite cycle of spring and summer versus autumn and winter. The first two seasons, spring and summer, the seasons of birth and growth, are called the ‘Early Heaven.’ The later two sea- sons, autumn and winter, the seasons of harvest and rest, are called the ‘Later Heaven.’ 

12만9천6백 년 가운데 전반기 6만4천8 백 년은 선천이고, 후반기 6만4천8백 년은 후천이라는 말입니다. 이것은 ‘자연의 선·후 천’ 시간입니다. 이 자연의 선·후천과는 달 리, 인간이 역사 무대에서 활동하는 ‘문명의 선·후천’ 시간이 있습니다.

During the 129,600 years of a cosmic year, the first 64,800 years of yang energy are called the ‘Early Heaven.’ The later 64,800 years of yin energy are called the ‘Later Heaven.’ This is the natural rhythm of yin and yang, the rhythm of the Early Heaven and the Later Heaven on a larger cosmic scale. Unlike these natural cycles of the Early Heaven and Later Heaven, there is a time when hu- manity is at the forefront in its history-making activities. This is the time period of civilization’s Early Heaven and Later Heaven. 

문명의 선·후천 시간은 봄에서 여름철까 지 선천 5만 년, 가을에서 겨울 초까지 후천 5만 년, 도합 10만 년입니다. 나머지 약 3만 년은 우주년의 겨울철로 인간을 비롯한 일 체 생물이 지구상에 살 수 없는 기나긴 빙하 기입니다. 이때는 새로운 우주 봄철의 탄생 을 예비하기 위해 생명의 진액을 저장하여 두는 천지의 휴식기입니다.

Our civilization’s Early Heaven spanned about 50,000 years during the time of the cosmic spring and cosmic summer. Our civilization’s Later Heaven will span about 50,000 years during the cosmic autumn and the beginning of the cosmic winter. Altogether, this spans about 100,000 years. The remaining 30,000 years are the cosmic winter, the time of the great ice age, when humans and other life on earth go into dormancy. This is the period of rest, when all lives store and preserve life energies in preparation for birth and evolution in the next cosmic spring. 

그러면 우리는 지금 과연 어느 때에 살고 있을까요?

Given this, in what time period do we presently live? 

천하가 가을 운수의 시작으로 들어서고 있느니라. (도전 2:43:1)

All the world now enters the dawn of the autumn destiny. (Dojeon 2:39:1) 

1장에서도 밝혔듯이, 지금은 우주의 여름철에서 가을로, 즉 선천에서 후천으로 넘어 가는 시기입니다. 분열과 성장을 멈추고 수 렴과 통일의 변화로 꺾어지는 대변혁기로 서, 인류는 지금 가을 우주로 들어가는 가을 개벽의 문턱에 서 있는 것입니다.

As was revealed in the first chapter, we are now living during the transition time from cosmic summer to cosmic autumn. We are living within the period of change from the Early Heaven to the Later Heaven. The process of dis- sipation and growth is concluding, and heaven and earth are entering the time of harvest and unity. We are living in a time of great change. Humanity now stands on the threshold of the time of cosmic autumn.

최근 인간 생명을 거세게 위협하는 대지 진, 폭염, 폭설과 같은 자연 재앙과 경제위 기, 질병 같은 모든 재난은 바로 이 때문에 일 어나는 것입니다. 그런데 안타깝게도 지구 촌 인류는 ‘지금이 여름과 가을이 바뀌는 하 추교역 夏秋交易 의 대개벽기’라는 이 시대 변 화의 핵심 명제를 전혀 모릅니다. 이 때문에 상제님께서 오늘의 천하창생을 모두 ‘철부 지 節不知 인생’이라 한탄하셨습니다.

Recent natural disasters ? earthquakes, heat waves, blizzards, floods, hurricanes, tsunamis, new deadly epi- demics, and economic crises ? are all occurring because we are facing the time of cosmic autumn. Humanity is presently unaware that right now is the transition time from cosmic summer to cosmic autumn. Humanity is un- aware of the reason and purpose of the change we are un- dergoing right now. This is why Sangjenim described modern humanity as ‘children who cannot yet tell time.’ 

시속에 절후를 철이라 하고 어린아이의 무지몰각한 것을 철부지라 하여… 노인도 몰 지각하면 ‘철부지한 아이와 같다’ 하느니라. (도전 2:138:2~3)

When a child lacks maturity, we say, ‘That child cannot even understand the tide of the seasons.’ When an old per- son is foolish, we say, ‘That person is no more than a child who cannot even understand the tide of the seasons.’ (Dojeon 2:106:2~3) 

더욱 심각한 것은 사람들이 지금이 천지의 봄인지, 여름인지, 가을인지 관심도 없고 알 려고 하지도 않는다는 사실입니다. 게다가 선천 문화에서는 우주의 변화 원리를 제대 로 이해할 길이 없습니다. 이 때문에 선천 문 화의 틀 안에서만 살고자 한다면, 곧 닥쳐올 후천에 대해 알 길이 전혀 없습니다.

The severity of the problem lies in the fact that people are not only unaware whether we are living in the cosmic spring, summer, or autumn, they are not even interested in finding out in which season we happen to live. During the time of the Early Heaven’s civilization, there was no way to properly understand the principle of the universe’s change. If we insist on only living within the framework of the Early Heaven’s civilization, there is no way to under- stand the era of the Later Heaven into which we are about to enter. 

우리가 꿈꾸는 결코 무너지지 않는 성공, 천지성공을 성취하려면 지금 천지가 어느 계절에 들어서 있는지를 반드시 알아야 합 니다. 천지 변화에 대한 근원적인 깨달음이 있어야 ‘인생 성공에 대한 새로운 정의’를 내 릴 수 있고, 천지성공이 이 시대에 성취해야 할 궁극의 성공임을 절감하게 되는 것입니 다. (계속)

If we are to achieve our ultimate success, the unyield- ing success of heaven and earth, we must know the season of heaven and earth. We must understand which season heaven and earth are striving toward. When there is an ul-timate understanding of the fundamental principle of the universe’s change ? when we become one with the princi- ple of the universe’s change ? we can define the real mean- ing of success in our lives and we can understand that the success of heaven and earth is the true success that we must achieve in this time of heaven and earth’s completion.
