Mugeuk: The origin of universe’s change and transformation 

잠시도 쉼 없이 변화하며 흘러가는 저 대 자연을 바라보십시오. 극미의 원자 세계에 서 무변광대한 우주 천체에 이르기까지 만 물은 음양의 통일과 대립 속에서 조화를 이 루며 생명의 춤을 추고 있습니다.

Nature is constantly changing; it flows ceaselessly and without interruption. From the subatomic world to the celestial bodies of the universe, all things dance in har- mony in the unity and confrontation of yin and yang. 

무극 無極 이란, 우주생명이 음극과 양극으 로 나누어지기 이전, 곧 주객으로 분화하기 이전 상태인, 인간과 우주생명의 본원으로 상대성을 초월한 절대 자리입니다. 시공 時空 이 벌어지기 이전의 상태인 무극생명은 ‘무 無 의 지극한 極 조화 경계’라는 이름 그대로 음도 양도 아닌 절대 중 中 입니다. 그 본성이 허 虛 하고 무 無 하여 우주 조화의 바탕이 됩니 다. 이 우주 조화의 궁극적 근원인 무극의 경 계는 오직 고도의 직관을 통해서 느끼고 체 험할 수 있습니다. 그러므로 우리 마음이 무 극의 경계가 있다고 인정하면 그 조화가 우 리 영 靈 속으로 흘러 들어오되, 없다고 생각 하면 응하지 않습니다. 이것이 노자가 말한 무 無 이며, 예수의 십자가 十字架 가 상징하는 영생과 사랑의 길( 道 )입니다.

As the origin of human and cosmic life force, Mugeuk is an absolute state that transcends relativity; it is the state of the cosmic life energy before it is divided into yin and yang, before it is differentiated into subject and object. Mugeuk life force, a state before the creation of time and space, is an absolute mediate state that is neither yin nor yang. Indeed, it is referred to as “the ultimate harmonious and creative boundary of nothingness.” As its nature is va- cuity and nothingness, it serves as the basis of cosmic creativity. The boundary of Mugeuk, the ultimate source of this cosmic creativity, can be felt and experienced only through a high degree of intuition. Accordingly, if our mind recognizes that there is a boundary of Mugeuk , the harmonious creativity will flow into our spirit; however, if we do not believe that it exists, it will not respond to our minds. This is the nothingness to which Lao Tzu referred and is the path of eternal life and love symbolized by the cross in Christianity. 

무극은 음양 분화 이전의 시원 자리이므로 부호로는 ‘○’, 상수 象數 로는 ‘0 零 ’으로 나타 냅니다. 이를 본체 무극(0무극, 본원 무극)이 라 합니다. 그리고 이와 구분하여 현실 우주 의 순환질서 속에서 작용하는 무극을 상수로 ‘10’무극수로 나타냅니다. 이를 현상 무 극이라 합니다. 현실 속에서 우주 만유를 통 일 수렴하는 가을철의 천지 조화 기운이 바 로 ‘10무극’입니다. 이 ‘10무극’은 10토 土 ( 未土 )가 주재합니다.

As Mugeuk is a primordial state before the differ- entiation of yin and yang, it is indicated by “ ○ ” as a code and numerically as “zero” (0). This is known as the funda- mental Mugeuk (or the “zero Mugeuk” or “original Mugeuk”). Moreover, Mugeuk, which operates in the cy-clical order of the real universe, is numerically expressed as “ten” (10) Mugeuk. This is called the phenomenal Mugeuk. In the real world, “ten Mugeuk ” is the Autumnal qi of Heaven and Earth’s creation-transformation that unifies all things in the universe. This “ten Mugeuk” is governed by ten Earth ( Mi Earth). 

인류 문명사로 보면 본체 무극(0무극)의 정신을 펼친 도는 바로 천지의 허 虛 하고 무 無 한 기운으로 태동한 선도 仙道 입니다.

In the history of human civilization, the dao that opened the spirit of the fundamental Mugeuk (zero Mugeuk) is the immortalism born with the qi of Heaven and Earth’s emptiness and nothingness.

◎ 受天地之虛無 하여 仙之胞胎 하고

수천지지허무    선지포태

천지의 허무( 無極 )한 기운을 받아 선도가 포태하고 (도전 2:150)

선도는 바로 이 무극생명의 진기 眞氣 속으 로 심신을 수렴 收斂 시켜 영원한 우주 생명을 성취하는 ‘선 仙 의 길’을 가르쳐 왔습니다. 증 산 상제님의 진리, 증산도는 가을철에 천지 만물을 통일 수렴하는 10무극 정신에 의해 서 탄생한 ‘10무극 시대를 여는 가을 우주의 조화 선도’입니다. (계속)

Immortalism has taught “a path of an immortal” that guides people to attain eternal cosmic life energy by merg- ing their mind and body into the pure energy of Mugeuk life force.
