종교와 과학을 통합하는 철학 A philosophy that integrates religion and science

현대 문명을 이끌어 온 오늘날 제2의 종교 는 ‘도의 원형 뿌리 문화’인 신교와 단절되어 그 근본 가르침이 오도되고 생명력 또한 고갈되어 숱한 문제를 일으키고 있습니다. 이 제 인류는 제2의 세계 종교가 안고 있는 대 립과 모순을 극복하고 보편적인 세계 구원 을 성취할 수 있는 ‘제3의 초종교(열매 문 화)’가 출현하기를 고대하고 있습니다. 인류 의 시원 모체문화인 신교를 태동시키고 제2 의 종교문화를 발생시킨 동양의 유구한 영 적 유산과 전통을 생각할 때, 그러한 제3의 초종교도 역시 동양에서 태동하리라는 것을 가늠할 수 있습니다. 로마 시대로부터 전해 지는 “빛은 동방으로부터!(ex oriente lux)”라는 경구는 혼란과 전환의 시대에 언 제나 동양에서 구원의 빛이 비쳐 온다는 하 느님의 섭리를 간파한 명구입니다. 

Today, the well-known religions (or second religions) that have led modern civilization have become disconnected from Singyo (Spirit Teaching), the “archetype of dao.” The fundamental teachings of Singyo are misunderstood and its vitality exhausted, resulting in many problems. Now, humanity is looking forward to the emergence of a “united religion” (the third religion or “fruit culture”) able to overcome the confrontations and contradictions of the various second religions and achieve universal salvation. Considering the spiritual heritage and traditions of the East ? which produced Singyo , the archetypal culture of humankind, and the development of the second religions ? we can assume that such a third united religion will also be born in the East. The Roman phrase “ ex oriente lux ” offers a glimpse of God’s providence that, in times of change and confusion, the light of salvation always comes from the East.

인류 문명의 극적인 대전환기를 맞이한 오 늘, 제3의 초종교의 출현과 함께 세계 구원 의 빛이 동방에서 비쳐오고 있습니다. 인류 의 열매 문화인 이 초종교의 출현은 문명의 양대 산맥인 종교와 과학을 통합하는 길이 기도 합니다. 종교와 과학은 서로 보완하는 관계에 있습니다. 인간이 추구하는 진리 세 계를 나무로 비유하면, 종교는 보이지 않는 생명의 근본( 道 ) 자리인 뿌리를, 과학은 현상 세계( 物 )에 해당하는 줄기를 해명해 줍니다. 사실, 종교가 부르짖는 이상 세계는 과학의 도움 없이 구현될 수 없으며, 과학이 해명하고자 하는 인간과 우주의 신비는 내적 통찰과 종교적 깨달음의 도움 없이는 풀 길이 없습니다. 이 양자를 하나로 조화시켜 천변만화 千變萬化 하는 인간 세상을 마침내 영원한 평화의 꽃밭으로 가꾸고, 유·불·선·기독교 의 우주관과 구원관을 통일하는 역할을 철학이 성취하게 됩니다.

Therefore, facing a turning point in human civilization, the light of world salvation comes from the East with the advent of the third religion. The emergence of this third religion, which is the fruit culture of humankind, offers a way to integrate religion and science, which are two pillars of contemporary civilization. Religion and science share a complementary relationship with each other. When we compare the world of truth pursued by humans to trees, religion is akin to the roots, which is the foundation (Dao) of invisible life, while science is like the stem, which corresponds to the phenomenal or material world. In fact, the ideal world proclaimed by religions cannot be actualized without the assistance of science, while the mysteries of humanity and universe that science seeks to solve cannot be explained without the aid of inner insight and religious awakening. Philosophy will fulfill the role of transforming the ever-changing human world into a flower garden of eternal peace by combining religion and science into one, and unifying the cosmology and salvation of Confucianism, Buddhism, Immortalism, and Christianity. 

동서양을 막론하고 인간은 ‘우주의 본체 는 무엇이고 그 본체는 어떻게 현상 세계를 열어 가는가’ 하는 문제를 밝히고자 노력하였습니다. 그러한 인간의 탐구욕이 철학의 세계를 열어 놓았습니다. 동양에서는 일찍 이 약 1만 년 전부터 음양의 체용 體用 관계로 써 역 易 철학을 정립하였고, 서양에서는 본 체론과 우주론으로써 이 문제를 해결하고자 하였습니다. 그러나 서양 철학은 변화의 본 체와 작용을 총체적으로 해명하지 못하고 이론의 대립과 모순을 남김으로써 우주 변 화의 원리를 명확하게 제시하지 못했습니 다. 이제 인류의 통일문화를 열기 위해서 인 간 지성은 종교와 과학의 한계를 극복할 제3 의 길을 모색하지 않을 수 없는데, 그 길이 바 로 ‘통일된 우주 원리’를 제시하는 동양의 ‘역 易 ’ 철학입니다. Regardless of the boundaries between the East and the West, humans have sought to discover what the substance of the universe is and how this substance initiates and changes the phenomenal world. Such human desire for inquiry has opened the world of philosophy. Established in the East some 10,000 years ago, the philosophy of I-ching (the philosophy of yeok , which refers to change) explains the relation of substance through the function of Yin and Yang. While the West tried to solve this problem through ontology and cosmology, Western philosophy has failed to clarify the principle of the universe’s change and transformation insofar as its theories are not able to illuminate the substance and function of all change in general, and its theories contradict one another. In order to facilitate the unification of humanity, human intelligence must find a third way to overcome the limitations of religion and science: the “I-ching” philosophy of the East presents the unified principle of the universe.
