Plagues and Peoples - William H. McNeill
A thought provoking book that takes a closer look at the major plagues that altered the human history. The author compares the micro-parasites of bacteria, worms, and viruses and the macro-parasites of plunderers, raiders, armies, and governments. McNeill also reveals that the rise of Christianity and Buddhism may have benefited from epidemics as they provide a spiritual explanation for the currence of plagues that the previous pagan religions could not answer.
